April 2005

FINALLY!!  We cleaned out the house we were renting and hit the road!  We were just about to leave for San Diego, I was packing some last minute stuff in our Suburban to be stored and Jim was replacing the water pump on the bus when Matthew came running up to me yelling "Mom come quick, Dad needs you!", I went over to Jim saw lots of blood on his face.  The bay doors on our bus are very old and some of the edges can be sharp.  Jim had been bent over working on the pump, and turned stood and swung out to avoid hitting the door directly above him, not remembering the bay door behind him was also open!!  Once we rinsed him off he had a small deep cut on the bridge of his nose and a torn lip.  After about four stitches and a tetanus shot we were off.   For real!!

We spent our first night ever at a truck stop, then drove to San Diego!

Jim felt right at home with the animals at the San Diego Zoo, "Welcome to the jungle"

We saw

 tigers (okay, it's a cheetah)

and bears!

How cute is that?

Although we were too lame to remember our camera a lot of the time, we had a great time visiting Sea World, touring great historical ships and visiting the Zoo.  We left San Diego and headed to Legoland.  We stayed at Carlsbad State Beach overlooking the ocean, nothing fancy except the view, which was fine with us.

The beach is just below us

We could definitely have stayed longer here.

But then as often happens, tragedy struck.....

and Matthew was eaten by a shark!

Lucky for him though,

his big sister has magical powers!!

We left as soon as Maddie rescued Matthew and headed for Disneyland.  Why?  Because silly...it's the happiest place on earth!!

When we pulled into the RV park which shall remain nameless...I thought "no way! This can't be right!"  I learned right then and there that advertisements aren't always true!  Did you know that?!!  Anyway, I actually got all teary thinking about staying at this place for five days, so Jim being the guy that he is drove us to an RV Park in Newport Beach that bills itself as "the Ritz Carlton of RV Resorts".  We had to drive a little further to Disneyland, but it was okay.

When we got to Disneyland we were shocked!  What had happened in the years we were absent?  I thought Mickey loved the environment....until I saw this

and this

Why?  Mickey Why?

We were very upset until we got into the park

and Matthew wished for a better tomorrow!

We ate for the very first time at the Blue Bayou inside the Pirates of the Caribbean ride (our favorite).

We sat right by the water, it was awesome!

Afterwards, the kids were so hopped up on sugar, they didn't sleep for a week.

We visited Knotts Berry Farm and I offered them $100 if they could tell me the name of Snoopy's cousin, and another hundred if they knew where his cousin lived.   Of course they had no idea, and the lady in the souvenir shop thought I was mean.  I told her "Homeschool!"

We think Maddie was still delirious from the sugar then she almost ran off with these guys.

Thankfully,

Matt and Spidey had her back!!

April came to an end and we made it safely back to San Jose for state testing (lame!) and my nephew's wedding.
