March was a busy, busy month. The Barenaked Family (did we mention they were back in Austin?) was asked to help out with the Roky Erickson Ice Cream Social. So naturally we helped out as well. This also happened to be the same week as SWSX (South by Southwest). The theme was psychedelic, so we did some homeschooling on on how to make tie-dye! Making T-shirts might have been a better beginner project but our 6x6 panels turned out great!

Roky Erickson was already a legend when he was arrested for possessing a joint in 1969. Trying to avoid a ten year prison term, Roky pled insanity. He was sent to the Rusk State Hospital for the Criminally Insane, where he was subjected to electroconvulsive therapy and Thorazine treatments and held until 1972.

The concert was amazing, the ice cream delicious. More amazing was watching the kids (lots of kid volunteers) kick it into action and work like pros!

Our friends the Sumeralls came down from Houston to help out. We had first met them in Utah for the Nightline piece, but this weekend we had time to get to know them better.
The next day we went a local taco joint for some more music.
