November was a busy month. We were working hard to get Families Rock off the ground. The first thing we had to do was find a venue to hold a family style rock show.
We came across this restaurant with a stage (very common in Austin), Greg and Jen pitched the idea to the owner and he agreed to let us use the space on the Sunday following Thanksgiving! Once we had a date we had to work fast and furious to put together an awesome Family Rock Experience! We had three weeks to line up a band, sew curtains, order t-shirts, bumper stickers, glow sticks and necklaces, lanyards and stage lighting. In addition, there were print materials to design and order and families to raise. Emotions were running high at times and personalities and family styles sometimes clashed...
but it was all good! During this time Madeleine had been hounding us to let her color her hair. We had always said she couldn't do that until she was 16. But we recognized what a great kid she is and let her use a temporary (8-10 washings) color.
Look she can even cook dinner in her cool new red hair! As we drove around Austin getting the show together we would run across wacky stuff like...
people picketing a "gentleman's club".
We celebrated thanksgiving with Greg's dad & family and shared a beautiful meal in good company. Corny as it may sound, we're big on traditional holidays and the kids look forward to a table set with crystal, china and candles.
These people were practically strangers yet they made us feel like family, for that we are thankful! Thanks Jan, Jim and Fam!!
AT LAST, the time for the show was upon us...
and we were ready. Could Jen and Greg be more excited? They had reason to be..
we had fog... a killer light show...
unbelievably talented bands...
merchandise to sell...
and FAMILIES ROCKING TOGETHER!
Babies to Grannies
Very Cool!!!
After a successful show we took some time off before Christmas and hit the road again. It felt good! Our first stop was San Antonio.
We learned about the oldest missions in the United States.
Mission Nuestra Señora de (that's a mouthful)
Mission San José y San Miguel de Aguayo Founded in 1720
One of the coolest things at this mission was the working mill.
Matthew receiving his Junior Ranger badge. This was November 30th - Happy Birthday Dad - sorry we missed it!
