Platia our mascot - don't ask! September arrived and the store Greg had been working on had become a nightmare! The finish date kept getting pushed back a week at a time. While sitting in Van Nuys was not our idea helping the BNFs realize their dream, we went with it for a while. Our friend Max was turning sixteen and we invited him down to celebrate Hollywood style. When asked what type of cake he wanted for his birthday, he instead requested Lemon Meringue pie. No problem we thought...Cindy and Jen set out to pick up a pie, only to find out that apparently, Lemon Meringue was nearly extinct in Southern California! We could have been filming a comedy, Cindy was becoming a little crazy, we couldn't even find a FROZEN pie!!!! At long last we found a pie at Marie Callendar's and then we set it on fire
Being the rebels that we are, we had pie first then went out to dinner. We went out to the world famous Rainbow Room and the waitress made quite a fuss over Max.....
then another waitress tried picking up on Matthew...
so Maddie tried to levitate a candle and set them on fire. After putting out the waitresses, we partied at the Roxy... Happy Birthday Max!!
The next day our friend Mike asked the kids help him make a music video for his 4 year old nephew. He thought it would be fun to use his nephew's favorite song "Accidentally In Love" with kids as the singers. Mike is a professional Hollywood editor and you have more than likely seen his work on TV (he is also a great guy).
We took over the rec room of the RV park and the kids spent about an hour learning the lyrics to the song.
Our friend Tah-Rick (another great guy) helped set up lights and equipment, while Mike helped the kids build drum stands out of legos.
He shot the video in less than ten takes, added some footage of the kids playing outside being goofy and ended up with an incredible video!!
The following weekend we took a drive to Vasquez Rock Park. This area was featured in The Flinstones Movie. We hiked around a bit and hounded Greg to finish the darn store so we could get their show on the road!!
This is me...hounding Greg. Poor Greg!
Jim's birthday is on September 16th. This was the big 4-0! Cindy had not planned on STILL being in Van Nuys and was at a loss. She thought and thought, we were all pretty stressed out and needed some hard core FUN! So......
we told Jim we were just going to celebrate his 40th in the RV park.
Then a gi-normous Hummer Limo pulled up to our patio!!
We drove through LA traffic listening to music, having cocktails and making Jim guess where we were going. We ended up at the House of Blues in Anaheim and saw the Gin Blossoms, afterwards we went to Manhattan Beach and had birthday cake on the beach at midnight!!!
And a good time was had by all! Happy Birthday Honey!!
It was seriously time to get out of L.A. so we told the BNF's to finish the wretched store and meet us on the border...
the border of California and Arizona in a little place called Blythe. There, we waited... But while we waited went tubing on the Colorado, mined for opals and went 4-wheeling in the desert.
